UV Solutions for a Mercury Free Earth
About us
UVSAFE is a global alliance of UV LED and UV LED-based system manufacturers with a shared mission to educate on the performance, benefits, and availability of sustainable UV disinfection.
This group advocates for the integration of mercury-free UV LED systems to support the United Nations Minamata Convention on Mercury, which aims to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury.
By documenting, educating, and sharing evidence on the effectiveness and availability of sustainable UV LEDs as alternatives to mercury-based UV lamps, this group is helping to reduce mercury levels in our communities.

UVSAFE Webinar Series - Pt:1
UV 101: Mercury-free UV Sources
In this inaugural UVSAFE webinar, industry experts provide an introduction to UV light sources, discuss key differences between traditional mercury lamps and UV LEDs, and explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of UV technology. The session also provides important context around ongoing RoHS exemption discussions and the transition toward mercury-free alternatives.
UVSAFE Webinar Series - Pt:2
UV LED Water Treatment: Making the Switch
What does it take to transition from conventional mercury-based UV systems to UV-C LEDs? This webinar features conversations with organizations that have successfully made the switch, sharing what drove their decision, the challenges they encountered, and the operational benefits they have experienced. Hear firsthand lessons learned from early adopters and gain practical insights into implementing UV-C LED technology in water treatment applications. Whether you're evaluating UV-C LEDs or planning your own transition, this session offers valuable perspectives from those already putting the technology into practice.
UVSAFE Webinar Series - Pt:3
UV LED for Healthcare Applications
UV-C LEDs are creating new opportunities for infection prevention across healthcare and other shared environments. In the third installment of our webinar series, experts Amy Hedrick, Founder and CEO of Cleanbox Technology, and Dr. Matthew Hardwick of Airmid Health Group explore how UV-C LED technology is being applied, tested, and validated in real-world germicidal applications.
The discussion covers the development and commercialization of UV-C LED disinfection products, microbiological efficacy testing, performance claims, regulatory considerations, and the standards shaping the industry. Together, the speakers offer perspectives from both sides of the technology: bringing UV-C LED solutions to market and establishing the scientific evidence needed to validate their performance.
